Main Line Bead Society

We’ve worked very hard to spread the joy of jewelry design to our local community and have been fortunate enough to reach beaders worldwide. Beadworks takes pride in our vast inventory, knowledgeable staff, and most of all, the relationship that we build with the curious & creative hearts that wander upon us. Without you beautiful creative people, we wouldn’t be the force that we are today. With that being said, Beadworks will be featured as the Main Line Bead Society Shop of the Month for April 2021! Thank you Main Line for your enthusiasm and appreciation. For those of you who are unfamiliar with MLBS, don’t be shy, reach out to friendly beaders like yourself.

The Main Line Bead Society (MLBS) was formed in 2006 by a dedicated group of beaders who wanted to build a sense of community among those who have a passion for beads, beading, wire work, polymer clay, PMC, and all things bead/jewelry related. Because the term “beading” truly encompasses a wide array of creative techniques and forms, anyone who has an enthusiasm to unite beads with fiber, polymer, wire work or many other media is, and always has been, encouraged to come join is at our monthly membership meetings and events. Come to be inspired and to inspire others with your creativity in our friendly supportive environment.  While MLBS serves the five county Philadelphia area, many members also travel to meetings from counties west and north of the five county area and from nearby Delaware and sections of New Jersey.

The mission of the Main Line Bead Society (MLBS) is to promote, inspire and nurture creative expression, interest and active participation in all aspects of beading. To accomplish our mission, we bring together a diverse group of people to exchange ideas, share techniques and talent and provide education and information through our monthly meetings, programs and specialized workshops and retreats.  Our meeting programs feature a diverse array of beading techniques and frequently feature well known artists who lead our members through their projects.  Periodic “members only” meetings feature a free project for members to work on if they choose, providing a less structured environment for members to bead while socializing over snacks. Open beading sessions and First Friday events provide additional opportunities for members to gather to bead in addition to the monthly meetings.  Annually the Society holds a large auction where members can find great beading related items to add to their stash.  There is an annual holiday party every year during our December meeting.  During COID, with the exception of a limited monthly open beading session, all of the Society monthly meetings are via Zoom and all special events have been canceled until large groups are cleared to meet.

MLBS also started and runs the MLBS Mid-Atlantic Bead Hop, an annual event that supports area bead shops by engaging the public to visit participating stores through special store promotions, contests, and several grand prizes.  Due to COVID, the 2020 and 2021 Bead Hop had to be cancelled but plans are underway for the 2022 Bead Hop.

The Society meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 6:45 PM to 9:15 PM. During COVID, all MLBS meetings and programs are held virtually via Zoom.  You can follow MLBS on Facebook.  Also check out the MLBS website for the programs MLBS offers, monthly meeting topics, advantages of membership in MLBS and, information on how to join MLBS at  If you have questions about the Society, you can direct your questions to MLBScontactus@gmail.comThe email address is monitored by the Board Secretary, who will respond to you directly.
